Fashionista !

Image
Soooo.... I decided to make my halloween costume this year. I had a couple designs in mind so I chose between those. It wasn't anything in particular but CUTE.. lol  1) My inspiration for the one piece was the Cotton Spandex Micro-Mesh Gloria V Bodysuit from  American Apparel. 2) Below is the design I chose from my collection.                                          3) I used fabric my grandmother had left over from her experiences with sewing. It is peach colored spandex. I did not follow a pattern this time. I just did the best I could.... Fashion Tips from Norma Jean : If you know anything about sewing... I sewed this on the wrong grain so it did not stretch the way it was suppose to but no one could notice. It was just super tight!   4) The middle section of the front bodice was some shear fabric my grandmother had also. 5) This is the garment almost complete. I did not add shoulder pads like my original design. They didn't look right when I added them.

Image
Last Friday, A&T's art department held a show available for any student to enter. It was a great show; very urban. Below are a few pictures featured in the show and the artist as well. This one was my favorite! Kendria Latrice: Acrylic Paint // Spray Paint Taylor Quincy Smith: Oil Paint   Jelani Elom: Mixed Media Jordan Powell: Oil Paint   Lillian Shaw: Oil Pastel I thought this was a neat idea; DeAan Prigeon set up a photoshoot in one of the classrooms open to anyone who attended the show. The background was splattered paint on a black sheet. NICE ! Photos will be posted soon....

Sprae & Grits

Image
A couple weeks ago, I blogged about my "art bestie" Arrington and some work he's creating with a creature he designed called "Sprae". Well here's the finished piece and some additional work he's putting together. The painting farthest right is a collaboration he's working on with 2 other artist.  Below is an artist from one of my classes. I just love love love his creativity with this piece of work. It's not quite finished but an interesting fact about it.... he used grits for the 3-D effect of Hip Hop. Isn't that just cool !

INTERESTING........

I came across Kanye West's twitter avatar. It is quite interesting. Kind of a play off of him 'losing his head'. Currently, in my Baroque Art History class, we are studying an artist by the name of Carravagio (who is now my second favorite artist). He is an Italian Baroque artist. During the Baroque era, artist practiced  Chiaroscuro, which is the observation of a psychological reality using intense light and dark contrast. After commiting murder, Carravaggio was on the run. It is said that he painted  David with the Head of Goliath (below) as a plea for forgiveness. It is a depiction of good triumphs evil and Carravaggio incorporated his own head into this piece. Carravaggio seen his self as the best artist of his time and harshly criticized other artist involved with the Baroque Era. His ego was BIG just as Kanye West. When you're the best at what you do, I don't blame you. Kanye didnt commit murder and neither is he "asking for forgiveness" but the

Styling Kat

Image
Yesterday was my very first time working with someone other than MsCris. Im really getting a hold of this styling thing! My second client is Kat Vaseer. She's a model, been modeling since her teenage years. It was a pleasure working with Kat and the team (below). Our first shot was high fashion. Below is the make-up artist, Neicee X and Hair stylist, Cyatta Siler getting dressed outfit #1: styled by the one & only =) Urban outfitters crean blazer, Royal Blue one piece, Jessica Simpson cheetah pumps below are a few sneak peaks. I cant wait until DeAan adds the final touches :D The second scene was just self-expression. Simple but radical. Kat Vaseer - American Apparel gray-wash half tank, Levi Vintage shorts/high-waste satin shorts, swade royal blue heels, and dangling red earrings DeAan and Sarg below, giving direction the team.. Below are some sneaks peaks from the second part of the shoot. This shoot, I must say, was one of the most involved and fun shoots I ever did.
