Eve Kay

Here's my most recent work. It's a portrait of a girl named Eve from my school. She's beautiful! The original picture was red and black but I created color when I painted it. What's unique about it is that I painted on a piece of wood my art teacher gave to me. That's what makes art fun... you can create a work of art from just about anything.

Step #1: I spray painted the background with Neon Yellow Spray Paint. It would have taking me many cans to have the background completely yellow but I thought the design of the wood was pretty cool so I left it at that AND I was able to save half a can of spray paint :D
Step #2: I sketched it out onto the wood. It only took a few minutes. I was sooo excited about painting her hair, it had to be the first thing I did.
Step #3: I had to compare the color of her skin to other pictures of her because the picture I was using to draw this portrait was red and black.
Step #4: I have a fetish for pretty faces as an artist and accessories as a fashionista so I began to add detail to her face, particularly beginning with her earrings and the cigarette.
Step #5: Shadow. Shadow is important when painting a self portrait. I made sure to create a deep contrast between light and dark. This is a technique one of my favorite artist used (Michelangelo Carravagio).
Sidenote: Here is my working environment, my bed. I like to be comfortable while working and locked away from everyone else. Why not my room?! I listen to music or watch television during a session.

This is the final piece... Ladies & Gentlemen -- "Yves Kay"
